A Shift

Two nights ago I did not sleep well. Around 0230, I first awoke to the sound of the port jib sheet winch being cranked away on, we were gybing. I could feel the heel of the boat increase and then I heard light rain hit the deck. I lay there thinking about our arrival to Dominica and the excitement of coming up on deck in a few hours and seeing land, smelling land, hearing land.

How do you Summarize a Life Time?

Hello! My name is MJ Fernandez and I am the teaching fellow for C-290 and today I have been tasked with what I would consider trying to summarize a lifetime. The students often mention this, but on program especially when we are out sailing time becomes very abstract.

A giant, goofy family

Although my name is Courtney, I now respond to “Beans” and “Beenzie” too. There’s a long story as to why, but it is one of the many examples of how the Cramer has made everyone act as a giant, goofy family. While other blogs have talked about the ins and outs of watch, meals, and bunks, I want to talk about the entertainment, in both its goofy and familial forms.

Studying or Snorkeling?

Today we all said ‘goodbye’ to Corwith Cramer. I could see her proudly standing in the golden waters of St. Croix from the window of my plane: that was my last sunset with her. I believe not a single person remained unchanged through the program. But it might be a little too early to see the difference yet.

The Island Life

Ahoy and land ho from Grenada! My name is Dan Karparis and I am currently a junior at the University of Maine in Orono, where it is most certainly not 29°C and sunny, sorry not sorry. I am currently writing this blog for December 3rd in the library of the SSV Corwith Cramer on December 4th at around 2100 (only eight hours after leaving the beautiful and friendly island of Grenada).

Final Days

Much has happened for the Corwith Cramer and her crew over the weekend. We shifted anchorages to Rendezvous Bay, held final Oceanography Presentations and celebrated everyone’s creativity with a Cramer Art gallery. That was Saturday!

Goodbye Jamaica!!

At this moment in time, I am certain of three things:
1) There is no better place to watch the sunset than on the ocean, - with friends - on top of the Elephant Table.
2) Community is everything.
3) Ginger beer is (and always has been) better than Ting.

Hello, Jamaica!

Hello from the beautiful city of Port Antonio, Jamaica! This is our second day docked in Errol Flynn marina. Yesterday, classmates spent the day exploring markets and restaurants and sampling Jamaica’s famous jerk chicken. Today was filled with exciting activities and exploring even more new places.
