Williams-Mystic S20 goes to sea

width="1296"

Above: Katarina from U. South Florida looks out at the Crowley containers being unloaded by crane as we set sail for the North Atlantic; Below: Casandra from Bryn Mawr, Emma from UConn, and Dominick from Colby work on dock lines, while Stefan from UC Berkeley and others put away fenders used as we left the dock.

Greetings from Williams-Mystic aboard the Corwith Cramer!  The Spring 2020 (Williams-Mystic S20) class traveled from Mystic, CT to San Juan, Puerto Rico yesterday. We spent our first evening aboard and most of today getting to know the professional crew, learning about the ship, and doing safety drills.

Many of the students are currently tucked into their bunks for a short nap before dinner. Others -- those on watch -- are up on deck helping to set sails and steering the ship, collecting water samples and watching the weather.  We have a gentle easterly breeze and 3 foot swells making for a comfortable ride as we sail out into deep blue waters.

Stay tuned for more updates from the Williams-Mystic offshore field seminar!
