Welcome SEASCape session II

SEA Semester

The students running around playing Frisbee at their new home!

Today was quite the eventful day for the 28 students that were welcomed to the SEA campus to begin the second SEASCape program of the summer (despite the brutal heat). During the next three weeks, these high school students will have the opportunity to make new friends and discover the world of Oceanography and Maritime History and Culture. Compared to the first session, this group has a bunch of students from far away, including Louisiana, California, Texas, Canada, and Switzerland!

By 4:30, all of the students had arrived to the campus and the festivities could begin! Once the orientation was finished and the parents had driven away, students enjoyed a nice BBQ dinner outside with the RAs and professors and were introduced to their watch schedules for their duration on campus. Following the delicious burgers and hotdogs made by Marissa, students were able to meet their professors and get an introduction to their coursework and some of the projects they will be working on. The new SEASCape class closed off the night with a few icebreaker activities to get to know one another, and had their first assignment for Maritime History and Culture! With a New Bedford field trip coming up on Wednesday and a handful of guest speakers lecturing, we should have a busy first week up here on Cape Cod. We can't wait to get to know these new students and help them cultivate their love of the ocean over the next few weeks.
