Update on Volcanic Eruption in New Zealand

Virginia Land McGuire, Associate Dean for Financial Aid and Student Services

With the recent volcanic eruption in New Zealand, we wish to report that all is well aboard the Robert C. Seamans.  The students and crew of class S-289 remain safe aboard the vessel which, though operating near the Bay or Plenty, is well clear of the eruption at White Island.

We are in communication with Captain Chris Nolan and at this time do not anticipate any deviations from the planned program activities or timeline.  We will be in contact with parents if there are any changes.

A live position report of the ship may be found on the chart on our blog, and student updates may be found on the daily blog

Our hearts are with the families of the victims, and we will continue to monitor developments in New Zealand while wishing our students and crew a successful conclusion to their voyage.
