Souls on board

Students all arrived safely last night. 1st assistant scientist Janet and I went to the airport to greet the students and take them to the ship.  We welcomed the students onboard and sent them to find their bunks, unpack and get some rest after a very long travel day.  Today we spent the morning and early afternoon introducing students to the ship’s safety systems and to the nuances of life at sea.  We left the dock mid-afternoon to begin our passage north toward the Phoenix Island Protected Area, where we will collect data for an exciting array of student projects.
