SEA Currents: SEASCape

SEASCape 2017 Summer Olympics
Today dawned bright and sunny; a perfect ending to the week. We started the day with a time-honored SEA tradition - FIELD DAY. In this case, Field Day means a Deep Clean of all the cottages, sweeping, swiffering, and scrubbing our homes from top to bottom. At the same time, students had their final meetings with program faculty. Once the houses were looking spiffy clean, we broke for lunch. Post-lunch, we had the graduation ceremony, where every student received their SEA pin.
A trip to the beach was next on the schedule. The water at Racing Beach was the clearest it has been all summer and everyone enjoyed swimming out to the sandbar. We returned to campus for the start of the SEASCape Summer Olympics! Students were in teams based on house, with B house starting in the lead from winning Jeopardy last night. We started with a good old-fashioned 3-Legged Race, followed by the Sea Creature Relay. Then there was a 3-way Tug O’ War. The final events included Dizzy Softball and a Water Relay. A great time was had by all! The final standings were: Gold Medal - A House, Silver Medal - C House, and Bronze Medal - B House.
Dinner was very exciting - homemade pizza from Sabrina! After dinner, we roasted s’mores around a fire and introduced this American classic to our students from abroad. The final event of the evening was another SEA tradition - Swizzle. Swizzle is part group gathering, part talent show. It was an incredible evening of talent up in the Madden Center, which was beautifully decorated with twinkly lights. Acts included singing, dancing, piano and trumpet mini-concerts, a mini-movie, skits, a recitation of Shakespeare while in a headstand, juggling, and Improv. Laughter and hugs filled the room. The evening wrapped up with star gazing on the picnic benches before the Lights Out call.
Tomorrow students depart, and tonight was a fantastic finale to this three week adventure!
