SEA Semester

Above: Emma, Sophie, and Brooke try on immersion suits at the Fishing Heritage Center; below: Alexa, Patrick, Kaleigh, Nick, and Ben examine historical whaling journals.

We started the day off with an early morning breakfast. After we finished our food and all of our chores we departed for New Bedford around 9:00 A.M and got to the New Bedford Whaling museum at 10:00 A.M. While there we roamed around looking at tools used in whaling, whale bone, etc. After walking around in the museum we went into their library where we met Mark and he taught us about whalers and sailors log books and how they would draw and write about how they are feeling or the places they’ve been.

Afterwards we went out to town and got some lunch. Then we went to the Fishing Heritage Center where we learned about the fishing industry in New Bedford as well as the scallop industry. After that we took a short tour of the Seaman's Bethel and then we went to go see the Fredrick Douglas memorial. Then we headed back to campus where we ate a fantastic dinner made by Jamie. And to end off that day we went to L.T.C and played a couple games.

All in all it was a pretty great day!
