Over the course of the past few days, it has become increasingly common to overhear people exclaiming how quickly our time on board is passing. Today marks our 20th day – we have officially passed the halfway point of our journey! It is funny how time has progressed since we first arrived. The first few days were filled with an overload of information and the days stretched long, while we all adjusted to our new routine and way of life. However, once we began our watch cycles and found our rhythm, time suddenly sped up.
Our recent switch into phase 2 and the resumed focus on student projects is marking the shift in our learning process from becoming familiar with the basics to fine tuning and moving forward in areas of interest. Although it is reassuring to be more comfortable with our environment here, this next phase brings with it more pressure to succeed and advance in material. Considering how swiftly time has flown by, and with only 19 more days remaining, we are all feeling the urgency to absorb as much as we can from those around us and make the most of our experience here. As we are often reminded, what we will take out of this voyage is what we put into it.
In this next half of our voyage, I hope that we are able to continue to put in as much as we did in the first. I will be striving to make the most of all our moments here from the challenging teaching moments to those that feel like the backdrop of a movie. Although I am sure time will continue to fly by with increasing speed as we get even busier and gain more responsibilities, I hope we can all lean into this energy and remain fully present throughout it all.
