Expectations vs Reality

The Knob at sunset

When my major advisor first told me about the Woods Hole Partnership in Education Program (PEP) I was immediately interested. An opportunity to be a part of one of the premier research communities in the world? I started on the application that day. I expected to be surrounded by fellow PEPsters that were intelligent, driven, and passionate about their fields. However, I was afraid that maybe we wouldn’t get along with each other and that there wouldn’t be very much comradery.

I was wrong. Everyone seemed to click with in the first day or two. Between sharing meals, walks to the beach, watching the sunset from the Knob, and sitting in the common rooms just talking everyone quickly became friends. And while I was right that everyone here is incredibly smart and dedicated, everyone is also a ton of fun. I am incredibly excited to spend my summer here with everyone. I am looking forward to growing both as a scientist and as a person alongside all my new-found friends. This is truly an awesome group of people that I am very happy to have met.
