Souls on Board

I grasped the latch. Slowly I pulled, being careful to keep my coffee in hand. As I pulled the hatch door open I found Peter just on the other side. His collar was slightly twisted and his hair matted; his glasses were just barely clinging to his face, his eyes dreary. He struggled into the lab - behind him Panyu followed. He shuffled past me. Soon enough he reached one hand into his pocket, one into the other one. Little by little he pulled out the wonders from within; a tissue used, an airline ticket slightly crumpled. He tossed them into the trash.

He looked at me, somewhat puzzled. He uncomfortably adjusted his waist line. Slowly he forced his hands back into his pockets. He looked up.

"These aren't my pants!" He exclaimed.

Dawn watch is really a magical time for everyone. Whether it's the 0030 wake up, the midnight breeze, the starry night, or the magnificent yellow glow that begins to break through the clouds, somehow, and for some reason, people get weird. Very weird. We exchange stories left and right; we evade squalls from the ITCZ (the Intertropical Convergence Zone a.k.a. the great cloud that rains over miserable characters such as eore) and its subsequent, torrential downpours - I'm happy to say B-watch missed the rainfall in its entirety.  And our spirits are high enough to continue quoting Nacho Libre and Tenacious D relentlessly. Whichever the case, we keep each other happy and vigilant, whether in lab or on deck.
