Souls on Board

I would like to dedicate this blog post to the parents of the students and staff on board.  I am the Steward on the RCS and I have the amazing opportunity to spend one on one time cooking with each of the students. Some of my favorite questions to ask them are about their cooking experiences, where they learned, what they grew up eating, and what their parents are like.  I know my own love of cooking, as well as many others', started by watching and helping their parents.  Whether or not their, or your own parents, were the best cooks in the world, all the students have their favorites and their comfort food.  Mine is banana bread, because it reminds me of my mother, and of her mother.  Food brings us all together and creates memories of both wonderful and harder times.  It has been a gift to hear such  stories from all of the wonderful students on board.  So thank you parents, and grandparents, and generations beyond who have passed down recipes that have been gracing this ship.

I would like to say a Happy Birthday! To my Step father Eric!  Who taught me so much about food, from how to catch, clean, and cook a fish to keeping my knives in order.  Thank you for everything!! Lots of love from the Southern Ocean.
