SEA Currents: SSV Robert C. Seamans

September 28, 2017

Welcome Aboard!

Ben Harden, Chief Scientist

SPICE

Robert C. Seamans alongside in American Samoa.

Welcome to SEA Semester aboard the Sailing School Vessel Robert C. Seamans. We're in American Samoa, some 14 degrees south in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. 21 students and 13 staff are about to set forth on a voyage to Tonga and Fiji, before eventually making landfall in New Zealand, 2000 miles to our south, six weeks from now.

While we're aboard we'll be sharing some stories and sounds of life at sea and in port. We'll hear from the students about their daily routine and research projects. We'll talk with the crew and also some of our friends along our cruise track. We may even play a little music. Our bandwidth aboard is likely to limit the frequency of these dispatches so please bear with us as we try and bring you a flavor of our SEA Semester over the next 6 weeks.

For now, hope you enjoy!

- Ben

Fair winds to my favorite trio: Jamster, Bendo, and #17!  I miss you all dearly.  Don’t forget to #drink, and if one of your students has a question, remember that about nine of your other students probably do, too!
