Souls on Board

With the glorious arrival of tropical weather, certain worms have been spotted coming out of the woodwork to bask in the warmth of our sun-soaked deck.  It seems some still prefer the coziness of their lair, but the majority are brave enough to expose their wanderings to the crew.  They don't feed off our hull like the menacing shipworms feared by tropics-bound wooden boats, but they have found their fuel in the libraries' shelves. That's right, the book worms are among us!

How can a sailor give body rest, mind diversion, and soul nourishment?  Just find a sunny nook to then get lost in another world.  White whales and gorillas, paradigm-shifting naturalists and astronomers, oriental tailors
and royalty, fantastic warriors and wizards!  The top luxury at sea may be the distraction-free time between watches to pour through books that have been on our lists for years.

Many shipmates prefer to dog-ear their pages in the privacy of their pillows (or E-readers); however, the following were found enjoying these books in the ever-increasing temperature and humidity of our deck.

Braiding Sweetgrass - Nicole H
Unbroken - Olivia
East of Eden - Ryan
Longitude - Ariana
On Origin of Species - Tim
Congo - Conard
Lord Jim - Santiago
Memoirs of a Geisha - Claudia
Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress - Sophie
The Hobbit - Mike
On Food and Cooking - Val
Eragon Trilogy - Chrissy
The Fires of Heaven - Mickey
