Today marks the end of the S-260 Sea Component for Aloha 'Aina 2015.  The ship, crew and students have safely returned from their voyage among the Hawaiian Islands.  The students depart the ship with mixed feelings, both sadness as they say goodbye to their new home and shipmates, but they are also glad to see solid ground and have the opportunity to reconnect with friends and family back home and abroad.

The students all return to shore with a story to tell of this unique voyage of academic discovery, scientific exploration of the marine realm, and personal growth and reflection.  Thus, when that inevitable phone call and text arrives, be prepared for an epic tale.  Though it will be difficult to explain at first time and their chronology of events may be a bit jumbled as each day and night merges into one long, glorious adventure; I encourage friends and family to focus more on the mood and tenor of their voices. Each student has learned and experienced so much, overcome fears and doubts, and risen to the occasion.  There will undoubtedly be a bit of a swagger and confidence in their voice that was not there before.  What you are hearing is the unmistakable sound of a crew member of the SSV Robert C. Seamans!

I count myself lucky to have shared these days at sea with each and every one of them.  Welcome home S-260!
