Trip to New Bedford

Ship's Log
Today we went to New Bedford and the Fisheries Heritage Center, Whaling Museum, the Buzzards Bay Coalition, and New Bedford docks.
At the Fisheries Heritage Center we learned about the history of fishermen in New Bedford and how they harvested scallops. Buzzards Bay Coalition taught us about the water shed of Buzzards Bay and its importance to not only marine life, but human society and economy.
After lunch outside of the Whaling Museum, we went inside and observed all of the exhibits. These exhibits ranged from the weapons used to kill whales to replicas of ships that were sailed on to the objects wealthy people obtained after becoming successful in the whaling business.
When we were done at the museum, we walked to the port of New Bedford and observed the types of ships docked there. We then enjoyed ice cream from a small shop on the pier.
