SEA Semester Research Makes Top Marine Biology Papers List
Dr. Deb Goodwin
SEA Semester Assistant Professor of Oceanography
We're delighted to announce that a paper co-authored by SEA Semester Assistant Professor of Oceanography Dr. Deb Goodwin was named today to a list of Top Marine Biology Papers by PeerJ, the peer-reviewed journal in biology, life sciences, and medicine.
Deb and Dr. Miriam Goldstein of Scripps Institution of Oceanography published the paper, "Gooseneck barnacles (Lepas spp.) ingest microplastic debris in the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre," in 2013. Drawing on data collected during a 2009 Scripps research cruise and two 2012 SEA voyages, he scientists reported that more than one-third of barnacles in their sample had plastic in their stomachs and concluded that "barnacle ingestion of microplastic is relatively common."
