SEA Supports Global Launch of .ECO

SEA Semester

SEA Semester students deploy the CTD during their study abroad program at sea.

Today marks the global launch of .eco, a new symbol of sustainability.

Environmentalism and conservation are core elements of SEA Semester’s mission and curriculum, both in the classroom and at sea.  While program specifics vary, students are focused on gaining a deeper understanding of critical issues including climate change, sustainability, biodiversity, human impact on the environment, and environmental justice. Students are actively involved in field research, and their work often contributes to international ocean research efforts.

.eco is a new web address ending—known as a top-level domain—for anyone committed to positive change for the planet. .eco web addresses are available to any business, government, non-profit or individual working toward a sustainable future.

The .eco domain is backed by more than 50 environmental organizations including Conservation International, United Nations Global Compact and WWF and is a trusted symbol for the environmental community.

For over 45 years, we have equipped students with the tools to become environmentally literate leaders prepared to address the defining issue of the twenty-first century: the human impact on the environment. Just as our sea.edu domain communicates, at first glance, that our organization has an educational focus, an .eco domain will immediately communicate to the audience that the brand using it has a focus on the environment.

We are proud to be one of the first 100 organizations to use a .eco domain. seasemester.eco will re-direct to our main sea.edu site, while studyabroad.eco will serve as a landing page for those wishing to learn more about the advantages of choosing an environmentally focused study abroad semester.

Check out this two-minute explainer video about .eco or learn more at www.get.eco.
