Souls on Board

Hello parents, friends and family. It is currently 1625 and the day is a gorgeous sunny blue with light winds and gentle waves. It has been a pretty sweet day since the first hour and continues to look good for the rest. As a member of C watch today is my day to see the beginning and end of December 5th, 2017 since I stood dawn watch and will soon be standing evening watch.

It’s on days like this, when I get to see the sun rise and set and the new day begin that I feel the progression of time on the ocean the most. The rest of the time it seems like the hours pass in a blur as you go from watch to food to sleep to food, possibly some homework and socializing and finally ending back where you started – standing watch. This constant rotation and turning of the wheel fulfills most of our lives and at least for my part provides a sense of comfort as I never have to worry or plan my next move.

The simplicity of life aboard the ship is a great break from the hustle and bustle of life on land and a great way to kick back and relax and watch the days go by. As we read to each other passages of books, share in the experience of a sunrise and sunset or Moonbows at night (which we have been getting a lot lately what with the clear weather), pluck away at tunes on ukuleles and guitars, or spend time being fascinated by the biological life contained within the ocean, we relish how lucky we are to be a part of this beautiful planet and enjoy the pure joy of what it means to be alive and able to learn.

However, as much as the last few days have been pretty relaxing due to the light sunny breezes we’ve had, two exciting opportunities have arisen. For the first, the sunny weather seems to have brought out the goofy in B watch as they no longer have to worry about getting their “costumes” wet and have been seen sporting themed outfits while standing watch. Today’s theme is “goth-grundge” with lots of black lipstick, eyeliner and a spattering of blue-electric and onyx-black wigs (check out the photos for more reference).

For the second, since the winds are blowing from aft of us and are not blowing too strongly we have set not only the top’sl but also the RAFFEE (aka. the PARTY HAT!!!!!) for the first time this cruise!!! With the addition of the party hat the ship is cruising and we are bumpin’ along towards Napier – expected day of arrival the 10th. Therefore, as the party continues on the good ship Robert C. Seamans we wish you all a pleasant day and fair winds!

Wishing everyone a light breezy day, blue sky and clear starry nights.

PS: Thinking of you often Mama, Papa, Leah and Noah! Hope France is going well Leah and that you are enjoying your junior year in school Noah! Papa, I shot so many stars last night and have been learning how to do celestial (maybe I’ll know the southern stars better than you when I come home). Mama don’t worry I am having tons of fun with my adventure. Love you all so much, can’t wait to hear from you soon.
