Heading towards Oceanographer’s Canyon

Ship’s crew

We woke up this morning surrounded by a thick layer of fog. B Watch had the morning shift so we were all on deck early. The fog horn blared as we left our anchorage in Provincetown, Massachusetts with low visibility. However, the fog soon dissipated leaving us with the sight of whales coming to the surface. We spent some time enjoying the whales but soon we had to continue on our way. The deck team kept watch with regular boat checks and a lookout at the bow while the lab team started work on their projects. Soon our shift was over we relaxed on bowsprit, the net that hangs in front of the boat. We soon started class and under the instructions of the crew, all watches practiced furling the sails. It was all hands on deck! Now, with the wind against us, we're motoring out to the open ocean.
