November 14, 2014

Greetings from Auckland, New Zealand!

Deb Goodwin / Rick Miller, Chief Scientist / Captain

Ship's Log

Current Position
36° 49.0’ S x 174° 46.0’ E

Course and Speed
Docked at Princes Wharf, downtown Auckland

Chillier than anticipated for “summer,” with the occasional passing shower

All members of SEA Semester: Global Ocean, class S256, have arrived in good health at the Robert C. Seamans. Their afternoon included meeting the ship’s professional crew, learning to maneuver around the vessel’s many spaces and ladders, practicing line handling, and becoming familiar with critical safety procedures onboard. The group is looking forward to a rare full night’s rest and a busy day of continued orientation tomorrow. We’ll also be walking the Auckland waterfront to explore its history and shifting uses, then visiting the Voyageur Maritime Museum - student reports on all these activities to come. Students and crew alike are excited to begin the S256 sea component!
