Greetings from San Juan Puerto Rico,
Class C-259 and the Marine Biodiversity & Conservation semester course has begun aboard the Corwith Cramer. All of our staff and students have safely arrived at the ship and are settling into life onboard. We will stay docked overnight in Old San Juan and get underway on Tuesday April 21st, bound for the Sargasso Sea & eventually Bermuda, 900 nautical miles to the North.
During the next 24 hours, our students will take part in a thorough orientation to the ship, learning about science lab operations, line & sail handling, boat checks, safety equipment and emergency procedures. They will get to know their new floating home, classroom and research platform while integrating into the ship's company as student crew. Once the ship and all hands are ready, we will eagerly cast off our docklines, raise sails and turn to a course for the open sea.
Keep following our blog and wish us fair winds.
Sincerely,
Captain Jason Quilter
