SEA Currents: SSV Corwith Cramer

Lexi Wright, College of the Atlantic

width="650"

Hello from Montserrat! My name is Lexi Wright and I’m a junior at College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine. It has been a wild few days here on the Cramer! We spent all of Monday circumnavigating Montserrat and Redonda, where we experienced choppy seas and high winds.

Rebecca Hueckel, C Watch, Humboldt State University

width="957"

Hello outside world!
This morning we were treated to a light drizzle, which was a very welcomed relief from the heat already bearing down on the deck in these early hours.

The Day of a Sailor at SEA

Thomas Glanville, Tennessee Technical University

width="803"

My day started with an evening watch from 1900 yesterday to 0100 today. After that, I spent some time hanging out on deck and was asleep by 0130ish. While on the ship, sleep has come pretty easy. My bunk is in the main salon, in the upper corner by the engine room. It can get hot, but not too bad

Fisherman Science!

Muriel Bingham, Stony Brook University

width="876"

Captain’s Log: Day 642………..Just kidding it’s student blog time! Hi friends and family! We are still underway on route to Montserrat. This leg will be about the same duration as the first from St. Croix to Grenada because of a couple exclusive economic zones (EEZs) that complicate our scientific observations.

Izzy Slaymaker, Tufts University

width="707"

Ahoy readers! Welcome back to another exciting installment of the C-289 blog! Yesterday was our first full day underway after our Grenada port stop. With all the Mama Mia we’ve been singing, the phrase that comes to mind is “here we go again.”

width="693"

Hello outside world! It’s Third Scientist Ella Cedarholm, class of S-278 alum and A Watch officer, here to offer a glimpse of life aboard the SSV Corwith Cramer on December 4, 2019. Our Wednesday began largely the same as any other - with breakfast and chores.

The Island Life

Daniel Karparis, University of Maine Orono

Study Abroad at Sea

Ahoy and land ho from Grenada! My name is Dan Karparis and I am currently a junior at the University of Maine in Orono, where it is most certainly not 29°C and sunny, sorry not sorry. I am currently writing this blog for December 3rd in the library of the SSV Corwith Cramer on December 4th at around 2100 (only eight hours after leaving the beautiful and friendly island of Grenada).

Mandoo’s Friends

Courtney Dunham, Mount Holyoke College

width="650"

Greetings from C-289 in Grenada! We had an action-packed day going on a tour of the island! We started off our adventure with a stretching exercise led by Cody, our steward, in the marina parking lot. We then met our tour guide, Mandoo Seales, and boarded the air-conditioned van (emphasis on the air conditioning).

A Day of Necessities and Joy!

Ciara Olmstead, Mount Holyoke College

width="650"

Hi Folks! Greeting from the Corwith Cramer and Grenada. My name is Ciara Olmstead and I am a sophomore at Mount Holyoke College. I am on B Watch here on the ship, so I was not awake for our arrival in Grenada. I had been on watch from 1900 to 0100 the previous night, so I relished the opportunity to sleep in until 1030, a rare luxury.
