Update on SEA Expedition Blog Posts

The SSV Corwith Cramer is currently south of Nantucket, and blog posts from the SEA Expedition class are expected soon. Unfortunately, the ship is experiencing difficulty transmitting photographs from sea. Technicians are working on the problem and we hope to have the issue resolved soon.

Trivia Night!

On this day, July 16th, we started with some bagels and cereal for breakfast. After doing our daily chores we headed to our first class, Oceans and Society. Today we learned about the transatlantic communications cable system that runs along the deep dark depths of the ocean floor.

Exciting Days aboard the SSV Robert C. Seamans
We have had quite a few very exciting days here on SSV Robert C. Seamans, and there seems to be no slowing down. July 14th we crossed the equator and celebrated my 20th birthday. July 15th we turned right around, and we spent our day learning how to go aloft and completing our lab practical. T

Lite Winds and Many Dolphins

Today was a beautiful day with light winds aboard the Corwith Cramer. There were many exciting sightings, including a pod of dolphins that swam close to the ship during our afternoon watch.

First Day Underway!

Whale Watching in Plymouth

Today we woke up earlier than usual. We took the bus to Plymouth Harbor, embarked the whale watch boat, and joined a guided tour out to Cape Cod Bay.

New Skills and New Responsibilities
After about ten days sailing on the SSV Robert C. Seamans, we’ve all pretty much gotten into the ship’s daily working routine. As we are now much more comfortable with life aboard the ship, we are starting learn more skills, and take on more responsibilities with the hope of eventually reaching the Junior Watch Officer Phase where the students mainly take over running the ship.

Getting closer to the Equator!

The SSV Robert C. Seamans has been under outstanding weather for the past few days. Mostly clear skies, with gusts of wind helping move the Seamans ever closer to the equator. At the time of this writing, we are only 0°10.584’ from the equator, and I have already signed up to be woken up for the crossing!

A Relaxing Day Off

Today was Sunday! We had no classes and fun activities. After sleeping in, the sweet smell of french toast and bacon woke us up. After a leisurely brunch, we created tye-dye shirts. Though we were firmly told to use only three colors on our shirt, almost everyone went crazy with the paint.

Fancy Dinner Day!

This morning we had normal class time. We did an interesting lab on the relationship between pH and CO2 in oceanography, had a snack, then had a class on the Caribbean Sea.
