SEA’s Dr. Rich King to Discuss Natural History of Moby-Dick on Zoom

Join SEA Visiting Associate Professor of Maritime History and Literature Richard King for a free online discussion on Zoom hosted by the University of Washington Bookstore on Tuesday, March 2nd, at 6 pm PST. Dr. King, the author of the Ahab’s Rolling Sea, will talk about the natural history of Moby-Dick and our shifting perception of the ocean as well as his time sailing to the Phoenix Islands with SEA Semester class S-274.

Tall Ships America Honors SEA Captain Sean Bercaw, Crew & Support Teams

In recognition of the epic voyage of the SSV Robert C. Seamans last year, Tall Ships America last week honored SEA Captain Sean Bercaw, the crew of the Seamans, and SEA’s Marine Operations and Academic Program teams with its 2020 Tall Ships America Reimagination Award.

SEA’s Dr. Jan Witting Co-authors Paper on Sperm Whales in Phoenix Islands
SEA Professor of Oceanography Jan Witting is the co-author of a research article, “Historical Trends of Sperm Whale (Physeter macrocephalus) Distribution in the Phoenix Archipeligo,” published January 12th in Frontiers in Marine Science.
