Two years almost to the day from starting my last trip, I’ve rejoined Corwith Cramer in Bermuda for the cruise to Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. I’m sailing with class 211, who proved to be very smart and very “inventive” on shore. I joined class C-199 today in Bermuda after a flight from Boston that was complicated by TSA not knowing what to make of the spare CTD that I was bringing in an ominous looking crate. This cruise started May 8th in St. Croix and is headed from here to Lunenburg, Nova Scotia and then home to Woods Hole on June 14th. Read More

I joined C-193 in Lunenburg , N.S. , yesterday. They started 4+ weeks ago in Key West and stopped as well in St. George’s , Bermuda . Capt. Virginia Land is the master. Chuck Lea is chief scientist. Joyce Chaplin is visiting historian from Harvard. We have only 17 students on board this trip, so we have extra deckhands and visiting mate, Capt. Chris McGuire. Read More

I’m aboard Robert C. Seamans for a development cruise. RCS is tied up in Papeete , Tahiti , and we board at 1400. Capt. Virginia Land and Chief Scientist Paul Joyce (our Dean) will lead us. We have a full complement of mates, assistant scientists, as well as assistant engineers to help Dusty and an assistant steward to help Anne Catherine. We also have 4 recent alumni deckhands. I got to Bermuda Thursday and met with folks from Bermuda College, Bermuda Biological Station, Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, Bermuda Sloop Foundation, and board member, Ralph Richardson. I stayed with Nick Dill and his wife, Bitten, in Hamilton . Former board member Jim Humphreys, a vigorous 85 year old, met me at the airport. Read More

Got up in New Bedford at 0230 for a ride to Logan . Then an uneventful flight through Houston to Puerto Vallarta . Through customs and aboard the Robert C. Seamans at 1500.
