Annual Fund

Sea Education Association, like most educational institutions, depends upon annual giving to sustain its programs and to provide financial aid to students who otherwise could not participate in SEA Semester. Almost 65 percent of our students depend upon some form of financial assistance. To achieve long-term stability, we must count on an increasing number of loyal donors who give to the Annual Fund each year.

Our fiscal year begins on July 1 of each calendar year and runs until June 30 of the next year. The current 2004-2005 Annual Fund appeal has incentives that have been offered by a small group of trustees as challenges for SEA to increase the number of donors and size of donor gifts.

Participation Challenge

Trustees will provide a gift of $100 per new donor to the Annual Fund this year. Your gift of any amount will count toward this challenge if you are a new donor.

20 Percent More Challenge

For previous donors to the Annual Fund, a match is available for the increased portion of any gift that increases in size by at least 20 percent. For previous gifts under $500, the match is 3/1 and for those over $500 it is a 1/1 match.

Examples:

If you gave $100 to last year’s Annual Fund and make a gift of $120 this year, SEA will receive $180 as a result of your gift.

If you gave $500 to last year’s Annual Fund and make a gift of $600 this year, SEA will receive $700 as a result of your gift.

Why Give

Almost 60% of our students require some type of finanical assistance

Our student:faculty ratio is almost 2:1 at sea

Our ships are the most sophisticated research vessels under sail in the US

Over 60% of our alumni go on to post graduate work

Over 50% of our alumni work in the marine sciences, environment or education

Sea Education Association has enjoyed more than three decades of education under sail. From our first program in 1971 aboard Westward to the construction of our campus in 1985, a second ship in 1988 (the Corwith Cramer) and the launch and commissioning of the Robert C. Seamans in 2001, SEA's reputation continues to grow.
