Juliet Alla, 1st Scientist
Juliet's bond to the ocean was forged early, and not necessarily with informed consent, as the youngest in a sailing family. Years as a flashlight holder and dinghy rower gave way to summers spent as a sailing instructor on Cape Cod, but the siren call of the Midwest was hard to resist. Juliet later migrated to Oberlin College in pursuit of a writing degree, only to discover an enduring love of neuroscience. Having learned to embrace her nerdy scientific impulses, Juliet went on to study monkeys at a small island station off of Puerto Rico; some years later, the monkeys have departed the picture but being surrounded by water on all sides stuck. Sailing with SEA, Juliet gets to keep a finger in three of her favorite pots: teaching students, looking at things that go "squish" under the scope, and enjoying the view from the blue back of the world.
