Calling All Hands

There are a number of different ways SEA could use your assistance, by volunteering your time and energy!! Here are a few:

Class Representatives

Class Reps are generally voted for by the class in the last week of the sea component. These reps keep classmates in touch with each other and with SEA. They help to maintain contact information, suggest the development of a class website, encourage class fundraising efforts, and generally keep the specific classmates up-to-date with personal and SEA program news. Occasionally, a class rep may have to step down from this role, at which point other classmates are asked to volunteer for this very important position.

Admission Alumni Representative or Admissions Volunteer

AARs and Admissions volunteers assist SEA in spreading the word about programs to prospective students and their families. Some efforts might include putting up SEA posters, doing presentations at your college campus or one near you, hosting an SEA presentation or reception in your local community, or possibly conducting prospective student informational interviews. Alumni are one of the most important resources we have in letting others know about the merits of the SEA Semester.

Regional Alumni Association Leader

SEA is currently in the process of forming regional groups around the country. The hope is for these groups to plan at least one event per year in their region, making it easier for alums to travel to get together, meet new people, and network both regionally and professionally. Some groups might even plan a variety of outings- movies, canoe trips, and fundraising events. Share memories of the SEA experience while creating new ones.

Alumni Council

SEA’s Alumni Council is a group of Alums who are interested in helping to further communication and facilitate events, and act in leadership roles for the alumni body.

Deckhands

Alumni can earn sea-time by working onboard either the Corwith Cramer or the Robert C. Seamans as a deckhand over the summer or on one of the SEA Semesters, or lend your skills and learn new ones during one of the 4 yard periods scheduled each year.

For more information about any of these opportunities, please contact your Alumni Coordinator: Laurie Weitzen at 508.540.3954 x 12 or lweitzen@sea.edu.

Ways to Support SEA

The Annual Fund allows us to maintain the high quality of our programs and facilities, and to provide financial aid on a yearly basis. Alumni contributions are directed toward the Scholarship fund which helps provide financial assistance to prospective and current students who otherwise could not afford their SEA experience.

Planned Giving opportunities describe allow you to support SEA in another way.
