    • Mid Cruise Report from Class 216 onboard the Robert C. Seamans

      As of Friday, April 18, the Robert C. Seamans is at 05 31S x 155 39W, or about 350 miles south of the equator, at a similar longitude to the Big Island of Hawaii.  In the last few days, the winds have come a bit more against us, and we’ve been doing some motorsailing in the early hours to gain ground to the east.  Tahiti, near 17 degrees south latitude, is about 750 miles away.

      21 April, Full Moon

      As I write this, the Corwith Cramer has just left Port Antonio with class C-216, bound down the coast of Jamaica to Discovery Bay tomorrow, and then on to Key West and home. We have on board seven visitors from the University of the West Indies (eight if you count Camilo Trench, though he has been on board since our departure from Key West and seems too much a part of our shipboard family to be called a visitor). Our guests will be taking advantage of our scientific sampling, and conducting some of their own research on our way to their Marine Station at Discovery Bay.
