Class Reps are usually elected by the class in the last week of the sea component. These reps keep classmates in touch with each other and with SEA. They help to maintain contact information, develop or maintain a class Facebook Group, encourage class fundraising efforts, and generally keep their classmates up-to-date with personal and SEA program news. If a class rep has to step down from this role, other classmates are asked to volunteer for this very important position.
SEA is currently in the process of forming regional groups around the country. The hope is for these groups to plan at least one event per year in their region, making it easier for alums to travel to get together, meet new people, and network both regionally and professionally. Some groups might even plan a variety of outings- movies, canoe trips, and fundraising events. Share memories of the SEA experience while creating new ones.
Every year or two, SEA holds an Alumni Reunion on campus in Woods Hole. We look for volunteers to help with a number of event details.
Admissions volunteers assist SEA in spreading the word about SEA Semester programs to prospective students and their families. Some efforts might include putting up SEA posters, showing SEA presentations at your college campus or one near you, hosting a presentation or reception in your local community, or possibly conducting prospective student informational interviews. Alumni are one of the most important resources we have in letting others know about the merits of SEA Semester!
Volunteers can earn sea-time by working onboard either the Corwith Cramer or the Robert C. Seamans as a deckhand over the summer or occasionally on one of the SEA Semesters, or lend your skills and learn new ones during one of the 4 yard periods scheduled each year. Anyone is encouraged to apply; however, please note that due to the high volume of applications received for summer positions and some yard periods, SEA alumni and/or individuals with prior experience are more likely to be competitive candidates.
