SEA Scholarships and Deadlines

Presidential Scholarships

We have a $7,500 Presidential Scholarship for each SEA Semester class. This is our most prestigious award and is granted to the most deserving applicant. Criteria are: academics and educational experiences; service to community and school; and leadership experiences. You can apply for this scholarship by describing your qualifications and submitting a Faculty Nomination form.

Dean’s Awards

We have one $5,000 merit-based Dean’s Award for each SEA class. This award is based on academic achievement, educational experiences and intellectual curiosity. You can apply for this scholarship by writing a one-page essay describing your background and elaborating on your educational experiences.

Deadlines for Presidential and Dean's Awards:

2009 winter and spring classes: October 15, 2008
2009 fall classes: March 15, 2009
2010 summer class: December 15, 2009

You must be accepted by the deadline in order to be considered for SEA scholarships.

Tuition Awards

Several awards are available for each SEA class. Tuition awards in the range of $500 - $5,000 are awarded based on a student’s experience in one of the following disciplines: Oceanography; Maritime Studies; Nautical Science. Please submit a one-page essay elaborating on your experiences in one of the subjects. There is no deadline for Tuition Awards.

Special Scholarships

Trimester Scholarships

$2,500 Trimester Scholarships are automatically awarded to students enrolling in our winter class if they are from colleges operating on a trimester or quarter calendar. There are no deadlines for Trimester Scholarships and they are automatically credited to your SEA invoice upon admission.

SEA Seminar Alumni Awards

A student who has participated in one of our high school seminars is eligible for a $2,500 SEA award. Please call the SEA Financial Aid Office.

SEA Alumni Awards

If one of your parents participated in a SEA Semester program, you are eligible for a $2,500 SEA award. Please call the SEA Financial Aid Office .

Five-College Scholarship Award

A $5,000 merit-based scholarship is available for each SEA Semester class for a student from one of the five colleges in the “5-College Consortium” (Smith College, Mt. Holyoke College, Amherst College, University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Hampshire College). Deadlines: October 15 for spring classes; March 15 for fall classes. A faculty nomination is required. Canadian National Scholarship

SEA awards at least one $5,000 scholarship to a resident of Canada participating in a SEA Semester each year. Please apply for this using our regular financial aid application.

Charlie McClennen Fellowship

This is a $5,000 scholarship available once per year to a deserving Colgate University student accepted to a SEA Semester class. Contact the SEA Admission Office for details.
