Need-based Financial Aid

SEA is committed to helping qualified students and their families with the expenses associated with participation in our programs. Fortunately, SEA has many generous supporters and we can frequently award grant aid which enables qualified students to participate.

Our admission process is need-blind and applying for financial aid will not affect your chances for acceptance. You may submit documentation in advance, but financial aid will be packaged after your admission to a class.

While there is not a deadline, we encourage you to submit financial aid materials as soon as possible and to call us with questions.

We will work with you in determining what outside assistance will transfer to SEA. Federal aid (Stafford Student Loans, Pell Grants, Parent PLUS Loans) are usually transferable. State scholarships and outside aid (community or employer scholarships) can often be transferred. We have agreements in place with many schools that allow students to transfer institutional aid to SEA. Please meet with someone in your Financial Aid Office as well as in your Study Abroad Office to discuss your own situation.

You may qualify for financial aid at SEA even if you are not currently receiving financial aid from your college, due to the difference in cost. If so, we encourage you to apply for aid. Please discuss whether you should file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) with your Financial Aid Office.

SEA students can utilize an alternative loan while enrolled in one of our programs. It is up to students to choose their own loan provider.

Please submit the following in order to be considered for financial aid:

  • SEA financial aid application (pdf);
  • Your most recent federal tax return;
  • Supporting Parent/s’ most recent federal tax return;
  • Copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR);
  • Award letter from your Financial Aid Office;
  • Optional: If you have an unusual financial situation, you may submit a letter explaining your special circumstances.

Once we have all of your documentation, and you have been accepted into an SEA program, your financial aid application will be reviewed. You will receive a letter notifying you of any scholarships, grants or loans, as well as information regarding TERI/Alternative Loans and an Expense Sheet for your SEA class.

SEA financial aid will appear as a credit on your invoice. If your college has a special billing arrangement with SEA, please work with your Study Abroad Office and/or Bursar’s Office. Please contact Tara Reid at treid@sea.edu in the SEA Billing Office.

Any specific questions about our need-based financial aid program should be directed to Maryanne Richards at mrichards@sea.edu or 800-552-3633 ext. 26.
