Research Areas & Interests:

Dr. Smythe is an ocean and coastal policy specialist and interdisciplinary social scientist. Her research areas include new ocean governance arrangements such as marine spatial planning; the resilience of ports and maritime infrastructure to disasters and a changing climate; ocean and coastal governance networks; and applying innovative social science research methods to ocean policy problems.
