Virginia Land was appointed to the SEA faculty in 2000 after sailing as mate aboard the Corwith Cramer and Westward for several years.  Virginia is a graduate of Wellesley College where she majored in English and American Studies with a strong focus on American maritime studies.  Growing up a non-sailor in California, Virginia was nonetheless drawn to tall ships and the sea well before she sailed transatlantic as a student with class C-115.  Connecting with SEA as an undergraduate was the springboard to a career for which she has maintained a passion for over fifteen years.

Virginia has served as master of several other sail training ships.  Notably, she spent six months in the Hawaiian Islands working with adjudicated Hawaiian boys in a residential treatment program administered aboard the three-masted schooner Tole Mour
